HandsUp Is Alive

HandsUp Is Alive

Ive had been saying for a number of years now, HandsUp needed to take a quick look at the UK Hardcore scene… why you ask? Because the UK hardcore music scene has been going for a very very long time, its the music I first fell in love with, the music who’s energy, power and vocals grabbed my attention when I was about 12 and finally gave me a music genre I could follow and artists I could support. And to be fair, its not that different to what hands up is today…. Vocals followed by melody, 4 beat repeat structure, heavy bass and energetic. The only noticable difference was the BPM being faster (Usually between 160 to 180 BPM as opposed to HandsUp which is around 138 -150 BPM)

Oh and one other pretty big difference…. It was proud to be itself!

bonkers_07__millenium_fever__cover_What do I mean by that exactly? Well a lot of the UK Hardcore tracks have celebrated their own genre, their own style and their own fans. They love the fact that it is a niche genre, They love the fact that this music is theirs. They dont pretend to be anyone else, they don’t pretend to be the next Rihanna or Nicki Minaj, They are produced purely for the fans!

HandsUp on the other hand, over the past couple of years has felt like its tried to be something other than itself… Ive noticed a number of artists try softer beats, remixing much more poppy types of tracks, releases tend to always have the token “Dance” or “House” mix. Im all for creativity, trying new things but when it just feels like they are just trying to please listeners of other genres it grates on me a little. My moto being: “When you try to please everyone, you please no one”.  At the end of the day the listeners have purchased these releases because they love HandsUp, they love the harder beats, the catchy crazy melodies and the energy this genre brings…

megastylez - take back the dancefloorNow please dont see this as a negative rant, it isnt. What Ive seen over the past few months is the genre realising what it is, artists are listening to their fans more and more. Social sites such as facebook and twitter are making it easier for the fans to connect to the artists, requests are being made, old projects restarted and its making smaller genres grow and become more connected.

The genre has its fans and the artists are realising them said fans are here for the love of the genre… Not house, not dance, electro or pop. They are here for HANDSUP.

DJ-Gollum-feat.-DJ-Cap---HandsUp-isnt-deadIt needs to find itself again, It needs to love itself again and be proud of what it is. Megastylez “Take Back The Dancefloor” and DJ Gollum’s latest track “Hands Up Isn’t Dead” are great examples of this, proud to be different, proud to be harder. Crystal Lake has been very vocal about supporting and celebrating the genre and now Manian has put in a crazy amount of work and compiled a huge album with some of the greatest artists around to celebrate this music.manian - handsup forever Its about being who we are, We are dancing to what we love and it doesnt need to change to please other people, it needs to evolve to please its own people and with that comes the extra fans, new artists and fresh talent.

We are one folks! And HandsUp is well and truely ALIVE.
